A Fine and Rare Set of Four Renaissance Oak Portrait Panels
The centre of each panel carved with a male head, each sporting a different head-dress, and set within well-carved free-flowing scrolls, with stylised urns, flowers and fruit.
To the reverse of each panel is a carved linenfold design. These four panels would have been part of an interior screen – possibly the top section. The busts would have been visible from the more important room, whilst the side with the linenfold decoration would have been visible from the lesser room – perhaps a stairwell or passageway.
Probably French, circa 1450-1500.
Height 16.5 inches, width 9 inches.
